February 2005 About the project Project Objective: To innovate undergraduate curricula in computer science, by restructuring existing and involving new high quality courses, flexible enough to adapt to the new technologies and the future one's. To develop cooperation between consortium partners.

February 2005 Outcomes Reconstructions of CS courses in fields: Computer Architecture (CA), Logic Design (LD), Data Base Systems (DBS), Computer Networks (CNet) and Internet & E-Technologies (IntET). New subjects in Computer Science. New teaching environment in CS courses and retraining of teaching staff. Progress reviewed and future activities planed.

February 2005 Student mobility program Four week practical placement of undergraduate students from FEEN at partner institutions  7 students at University of Dortmund (realized)  4 students at TEI Athens (realized)  4 students at FNSM Skopje (ongoing) Program is evaluated as “an example of good practice” by NTO for Serbia and Montenegro. Student mobility program will be presented at DAAD- Bologna Conference in Bonn, March 17 th 2005.

We evaluated the following: average mark during the studies interview number of passed courses language proficiency in English (or German) average mark from the group of courses laboratory work results international competitions duration of study

11 Skopje, 16. February 2005 Realization of publishing activities The following issues have been published at Faculty of Electronic Engineering: Proceedings of Workshops on Computer Science Education 14 textbooks two regular issues of Facta Universitatis

February 2005 Innovations in teaching (formal approach) New topics involved in more than 20 different courses Five completely new courses (first delivered for the first time in winter semester 2003/04, others in winter semester 2004/05) are involved in current curricula at Faculty of Electronic Engineering, University of Nis: Software Engineering Embedded systems Mobile and wireless services Software design using design patterns Databases – advanced techniques Work on reconstructing CS courses and involving new courses in existing CS curriculum initiated the work on draft version of new CS curriculum and ECTS implementation. First proposals have already been discussed.

February 2005 Key successes - Proceedings Proceedings of Workshops on Computer Science Education The Proceedings describes the impact of new fundamentals on undergraduate CS engineering courses at all five participating academic institutions of our joint project during the first two years of this project. Six Workshops and two Symposiums in two years. In total, 120 presentations, and 164 participants from 15 different academic institutions take active parts during the preparation of the material and numerous discussions related to presentation of the achieved results of our joint project. 35 papers passed the referee procedure for publication in this special issue PROCEEDINGS. The contributed papers were divided into six sessions, on innovations curriculum, lab practicing, teaching tools, Internet technologies, Mathematics in computer science, and selected topics.

21 Skopje, 16. February 2005 a) New labs with new equipment What did we do? Two new teaching labs were established with one server and 16 PC workstations each. New digital projectors are at Computer Science Department teaching staff disposal. Lab practical classes from more than twenty different courses are delivered in these Labs.

February 2005 b, c) MTT + Web support Modern teaching tools are applied at teaching Important innovations relate to using and developing original multimedia teaching tools (SimArch for Computer Architectures, Intelligent Tutoring System for Databases, Simulators for Computer Networks). A lot of teaching material has been prepared for Web publication E-Forum for discussion about proposals for new CS curriculum has been initiated (http://cs.elfak.ni.ac.yu/forum/).http://cs.elfak.ni.ac.yu/forum/

February 2005 Dissemination The following dissemination actions were undertaken:  Proceedings on Workshops on Computer Science Education was published  6 Workshops and 2 Symposiums were organized  14 textbooks and manuals were printed  Presentation of project results was delivered at Tempus Information Day – Athens, Greece, November 3 rd, 2003.  Web site was regularly updated (http://tempus.elfak.ni.ac.yu)http://tempus.elfak.ni.ac.yu
