Risks……………………. Sending friends text messages during class time. Any different to paper notes?

Risks……………………. Sending or receiving test answers. Cheating at exams, nothing new there!

Risks………………………. Non-filtered web access that can be used to spread content that some parents do not want their children exposed to. Cheaper to access at home using computer or WiFi. School Wi-Fi can be filtered.

Cyber bullying Bullying or harassment via unwanted text messaging. Taking and distributing inappropriate digital photos of students. Not confined to class or the mobile phone. School policy needed here. More likely to take place outside the classroom.

Worries …….. Recording teachers can be detrimental to teacher reputation !!!!!

TIPS…………….. Make cell phones visible. Require students to place their cell phones on the top right- hand corner of their desks when they come into class. That way you will know if someone is texting or calling a friend when they're supposed to be learning.

Pluses…………. Is cost effective for schools Reduces the need for all students to have access to computers in classroom Need less equipment like digital cameras, camcorders, mics etc

Pluses…………. If pupils are going to have them in schools anyway, irrespective of whether it is officially allowed, they may as well be exploited for learning. Overcomes some of the problems of ‘distraction’ etc.
