Common Physical and Chemical Properties Lab: Physical and Chemical Properties of Everyday Materials
2
In this lab, you’ll be observing the following properties of materials that make up objects we use everyday.
3
Color A common physical property.
4
Density The amount of mass that is in a unit of volume. The more mass that is in a unit, the more closely the atoms are packed together and the higher the density.
5
Flammability The chemical property that describes whether an object will burn or not.
6
Solubility The chemical property that describes whether an object will dissolve in a solvent (usually a liquid like water).
7
Hardness This physical property describes the hardness of an object.
8
Luster This physical property describes how an object reflects light (shiny).
9
Malleability This physical property describes objects that can be hammered into flat sheets.
10
Ductility This physical property describes objects that can be drawn into a wire.
11
Brittleness This physical property describes how easily objects will break or fall apart.
