Corn & Iowa’s Economy Iowa has produced the largest corn crop of any state for each of the past 14 years. In an average year, Iowa produces more corn than most whole countries. For example, Iowa grows three times as much corn as a country like Argentina. Corn has been the dominant crop in Iowa for more than 150 years! Iowa leads the nation in ethanol production, creating nearly 30% of all ethanol. The ethanol industry has resulted in 50,000 new jobs in Iowa and accounts for $13 billion of Iowa GDP.
