2 Our Mission… The Parks and Recreation Division’s mission is to acquire, protect and preserve the natural, historic and cultural features of Michigan’s unique resources and provide public recreation and education opportunities.

3 Who We Are… 97 parks and recreation areas 284,154 acres 13,496 camp sites 437 miles of non- motorized trails 22 million visitors annually

4 Who We Are… Michigan leads the nation in boating 1,100 developed public launch sites 79 developed public mooring facilities

5 Compared to Other States… Michigan is: 1st in campground revenue generation 2nd in the number of campers 9th in overall visitation 16th in total operating expenditures 33 rd in the number of full-time employees 49th in general and other public fund support Spend $1.74 per visitor, well below the national average of $2.82.
