2. Your Choice! Theme: Idioms/words  e.g. “rule of thumb,” “cold turkey,” “under the weather,” etc. What You’re Doing:  You are going to create a 3D visual representation of an idiom, or a visual pun  You pick the idiom and the medium. Medium must be something we’ve used this year.

3. What is an Idiom? A phrase or fixed expression that has a figurative, or sometimes literal, meaning. An idiom’s figurative meaning is different from the literal meaning. Examples:  Twist my arm  Look like a million bucks  Find your feet  Bed of grass  Hit the books/hay/sack  Ducks in a row

5. Materials—Your Choice Media Options: Clay Plaster Wire Plaster gauze (with wire armature) Décor Options: Glaze (with clay only) Acrylic paint Watercolors Paper mache

6. Steps 1. Pick idiom—Google “American idioms” or “sculpture puns” if you need ideas 2. Think about what your visual representation would be 3. Decide what material would work best for that representation  Long, skinny parts/shapes?  wire, plaster gauze/wire  Rounded, thicker parts/shapes?  clay, plaster

Guidelines At least 7 in. tall/long Fully 3D, freestanding  Clay: hollow; Wire: fully rounded, not flat  Viewable from all angles Craftsmanship requirements according to medium MUST be completely finished by the day of your final *for clay pieces, this means FIRED and OUT of the kiln the day before your final You will use this piece in the final peer critique
