Context Miami University is a liberal arts institution Two years ago a university-wide discussion took place on what that meant and how we would fulfill that promise to our students Result – Miami University 2020 plan Followed by discussion of how Miami Plan (core requirement of all students) would be altered from its 30 year structure

External Constraints AP, College Credit Plus and Transfer courses Ohio Transfer Module Meaning – concentrating our liberal education efforts in the first years was counterproductive Result – revised Miami Plan for this year’s entering class

Your potential roles Eventually you will have some advising duties Two sets of books for awhile As you conduct courses within the plan make the listed competencies plain in your syllabus Highlight them and make it plain that they are integral to the course Consider serving on the LEC We need innovative ideas
