“The Vision of Jeremiah: The Golden Lampstand”

Exodus Ch. 25 & 37 * 7 lamps on the top of the Lampstand * 70 (*2) garnishings on its branches **12 divisions of its stacked base the Menorah has a divine configuration.... The specific numbers 12, 70 (2), and 7 represent a basic numerical pattern of operation for both Israel and the Church. Old Testament In Israel - 12 men led 12 tribes (Num. 1:44). Moses chose 70 (2) elders on Mount Sinai as a support system (Num.11:16). After Moses' departure, Joshua appointed 7 priests (Joshua 6:4). I New Testament Jesus chose 12 apostles (Mk. 3:14). He appointed other "70" (2) and sent them out in ministry (Lk. 10:1). After His crucifixion, the 12 appointed a body of 7 men (Acts 6:2-3).

4 Then the angel who was speaking with me returned and roused me, as a man who is awakened from his sleep. 2 He said to me, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see, and behold, a lampstand all of gold with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps on it with seven spouts belonging to each of the lamps which are on the top of it; 3 also two olive trees by it, one on the right side of the bowl and the other on its left side.”

Examining the Text... 4 Then the angel who was speaking with me returned and roused me, as a man who is awakened from his sleep. 2 He said to me, “What do you see?” And I said, “I see, and behold, a lampstand all of gold with its bowl on the top of it, and its seven lamps on it with seven spouts belonging to each of the lamps which are on the top of it;

Examining the Text... 5 So the angel who was speaking with me answered and said to me, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.” 6 Then he [a] said to me, “This is the word of theL ORD to Zerubbabel saying, ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the L ORD of hosts. a MIGHTPOWERSPIRIT chayil: strength, efficiency, wealth, army koach: abilityruach: breath, wind, spirit Jehovah Sabaoth (The Lord of Hosts) is mentioned over 270 times making it the most frequently used compound name of God in Scripture. This profound name means the Almighty, Sovereign, Self-Existent God over all the multitudes (whether an army, the sun, moon and stars, or creation itself).

Not Might, Not Skill, but the Spirit of God!

Examining the Text... 7 ‘What are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become a plain; and he will bring forth the top stone with shouts of “Grace, grace to it!”’” 8 Also the word of the L ORD came to me, saying, 9 “The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish it. Then you will know that the L ORD of hosts has sent me to [b] you. b

Examining the Text... 10 For who has despised the day of small things? [c] But these seven will be glad when they see the [d] plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel—these are the eyes of the L ORD which range to and fro throughout the earth.”cd

Examining the Text... 11 Then I said to him, “What are these two olive trees on the right of the lampstand and on its left?” 12 And I answered the second time and said to him, “What are the two olive [e] branches which are beside the two golden pipes, which empty the golden oil from themselves?” 13 So he answered me, saying, “Do you not know what these are?” And I said, “No, my lord.” 14 Then he said, “These are the two [f] anointed ones who are standing by the Lord of the whole earth.”ef

Focusing Premise: God is still concerned about sin, even when he is blessing us!

What is sin? Sin is described in the Bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7;Joshua 1:18).1 John 3:4Deuteronomy 9:7Joshua 1:18 INHERITED SINIMPUTED SINREDEMPTION FROM SIN “ADAM”“LAW OF MOSES”“JESUS AS THE BEARER OF OUR SIN!” God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21

An Easier Definition: Sin separates our HEARTS from God! Mark 12:30-31 30 AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE L ORD YOUR G OD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH.’ 31 The second is this, ‘Y OU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’ There is no other commandment greater than these. ?!

What do you love MORE than GOD?!

The Scroll of Zechariah: LET’S READ!

1. flying roll--of papyrus, or dressed skins, used for writing on when paper was not known. It was inscribed with the words of the curse ( Deuteronomy 27:15-26, 28:15-68 ). Being written implied that its contents were beyond all escape or repeal ( Ezekiel 2:9 ). Its "flying" shows that its curses were ready swiftly to visit the transgressors. It was unrolled, or else its dimensions could not have been seen ( Zechariah 5:2 ). Being open to all, none could say in excuse he knew not the law and the curses of disobedience. As the previous visions intimated God's favor in restoring the Jewish state, so this vision announces judgment, intimating that God, notwithstanding His favor, did not approve of their sins. Being written on both sides, "on this and on that side" ( Zechariah 5:3 ), VATABLUS connects it with the two tables of the law ( Exodus 32:15 ), and implies its comprehensiveness. One side denounced "him that sweareth falsely ( Zechariah 5:4 ) by God's name," according to the third commandment of the first table, duty to God; the other side denounced theft,according to the eighth commandment, which is in the second table, duty to one's neighbor.Deuteronomy 27:15-2628:15-68Ezekiel 2:9Zechariah 5:2Zechariah 5:3Exodus 32:15Zechariah 5:4
