2.  Shakespeare invented many words in his life time  Some of them include:  Frugal  Assassination  Lonely  Road  Seamy  Bump  Clangor  Majestic

3.  He also invented many phrases including:  It’s Greek to me  Hot-blooded  Every dog will have his day  Method in his madness  Heartsick  All that glitters isn’t gold

4.  Shakespeare changed the grammatical structure of many words during the renaissance in his writings.  Shakespeare would often take nouns and turn them into verbs.  Ex. Shakespeare took the noun “antic” (a fool) and changed it to the verb “anticked” (to make a fool of).

5.  Shakespeare was a master of creating insults  Some of his insults include:  Thou art a flesh monger, a fool and a coward  Thou art like a toad; ugly and venemous  Thine face is not worth sunburing  My wife’s a hobby horse  Peace, ye fat guts

6.  When Shakespeare wrote his literature he wrote in old English so his work needs to be translated  Many of the words have multiple meanings which makes the translation difficult  In modern English “you” is used for singular and plural  Thou was used for singular and ye for plura l  Overall the two are similar grammatical structure

7.  Because of European influence increasing in English society, European vocabulary integrated into English writing.  Shakespeare loved to exploit this in his writing to create many different meanings of the same word.  Ex. In the sentence “Light, seeking light, doth light of light beguile.” the word “Light” has multiple meanings of wisdom, eyesight, and actual daylight.

8.  Shakespeare’s famous for his effect on early modern English  He was a lead figure in the renaissance explosion of inventive language we see when we look back at Shakespeare’s time  He accomplished this due to the fact that English was as people modernised it into everyday life

9.  The bible is easier to read although it is written in the same type of old english  Shakespeare’s English is actually very similar to the English we speak today  Shakespeare’s often wrote in verse, therefore it can be difficult to understand
