Language Arts Curriculum The Language Arts curriculum is composed of four parts 1.Spelling/Vocabulary 2.Grammar 3.Literature 4.Writing

Spelling/Vocabulary 20 words a week given out each Monday in class Students received a workbook on Sept. 5 th to use for the year Quiz - every Friday Weekly words are posted on Teacherweb

Grammar Subject/Verb Agreement Parts of Speech Capitalization/Punctuation Sentence Structure/Combining Drills and worksheets are used to teach these concepts Students will keep all returned grammar assignments in their binders and take notes in their English notebooks

Social Studies Ancient Civilizations –Early man –Mesopotamia and Sumeria –Egypt –Israel –China –India –Greece –Rome The concept of culture is built throughout the year. Each civilization has pertinent vocabulary, class readings and questions, videos, projects, and presentations. Textbook will be checked out on 9/11 and returned to Canyon in May 2015. QUEST/Exploratory Quest will last through September 19 th –Introduction to Canyon, other students, study skills, a safe environment Then students will rotate between nutrition, ASES (study skills program), and computers
