11 Visit to Pentrepoeth Infants Met with Headteacher to discuss EEL Project carried out within the school. Sharing the process of whole school procedures. Reception class visit – observed children and spoke to class teacher re-project.

12 Sharing observations Met to discuss and share observations made. Discussed levels of involvement. Discussed areas of learning. Sharing of good practice observed in classrooms. Discussed indoor and outdoor provision Staffing issues Use of outdoors by all.

13 Evaluation of findings Found levels of involvement were higher during free choice/practical activities. Lower levels of involvement observed during directed activities. High levels of involvement observed in outdoor activities. More free choice activities noted in Early Years. Increased outdoor provision/use in Early Years. Impact of staff ratio Highlighted good standards of behaviour during observations.

14 Conclusion Wonderful opportunity to observe practice in Early Years and Key Stage 1. Importance of close, uninterrupted observation of children. Value of having time to reflect on practice with colleagues. Balance of indoor/outdoor, directed and free choice practical activities are vital in engaging children.
