In real life… Willy in the film is played a whale called Keiko The aquarium where the film Free Willy is set is called ‘Reino Aventura’ in real life and is based in Mexico where Keiko lived and performed for five years Keiko was captured when he was two years old Keiko, unlike Willy in the film, was a great performer and had many fans Keiko had a bad skin condition, which can be seen in the film, from being in captivity Keiko was released into the sea like Willy but it took months to organise and millions of dollars.
