PreAlgebra

Believe It or Not Models of the tallest person (Robert Wadlow, 8ft 11.1 inches) and the shortest person (Gul Mohammed, 22.5 inches) ever known to exist are displayed at the Ripley’s Museum. How would you use inequalities to represent your height in comparison to these two wax figures?

Fastest Land Car Speed The one-mile land speed record is 763.055 mph, set by Andy Green in Thrust SSC in the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, on October 15, 1997. Use inequality symbols to represent a comparison between the Thrust SSC and a car you have ridden.

Oldest Woman Ever The oldest fully authenticated age to which any human has ever lived is 122 years and 164 days, by Jeanne- Louise Calment. She was born in France on February 21, 1875, and died on August 4, 1997. She led an extremely active life, taking up fencing at 85 years old, and was still riding a bicycle at 100. Use inequalities to represent your age in comparison to Ms. Calment.

Your turn! Write three problems for classmates to solve using equations and inequalities from the Guinness World Records website. Consider using topics that involving data on the largest, smallest, oldest, rarest, most abundant, and fastest. Guinness World Records
