There are only two ways to become a US citizen, either by law or by birth. Becoming a US citizen takes a long time and is real hard, with too many steps, but not impossible. If you are born in the USA you are automatically a US citizen. In the other hand if you are not born in the USA you need to apply for residency first.

You need to apply for permanent residency and have a green card before you can apply for naturalization. You need to be a permanent resident for five years, immediately preceding the date you filled your application for naturalization. YOU NEED TO BE 18 YEARS OF AGE.

During your application and after, continue living in the USA, to the time and date of your admission for citizenship. Be a good person, for example having good moral character. Have no outstanding deportation or removal order from the USA.

You will be required to take a literacy test about your knowledge of the English language, and another test of your knowledge of US history and government. Requirements for the test are: The ability to read, write, speak and understand simple words and phrases in English. have knowledge and understand US history and government.

If you fail the tests, you will have a second opportunity within 90 days, and they will let you know if you pass within 120 days. If you pass the tests the first time, you get you naturalization within a week or less. =)
