13 School/Home Compact What is a School/Home Compact? Agreement describing the responsibilities of parents, teachers and students for student’s education Developed at each Title IA school by teachers and parents Sample compacts available in “Parent Involvement” online documents

14 Targeted Assistance Criteria What is targeted assistance school criteria? –Criteria for selecting students for services in a targeted assistance school How is district criteria determined? –Teachers, Title IA coordinator, parents and administrators of TAS consult –Must include: Multiple, objective, academic measures –Schools may supplement district criteria

15 Funding Parent Involvement How do districts fund parent involvement? Reserve funding from Title IA allocation –Allocation = $500,000 reserve 1% 95% of 1% allocated to schools –If less than $500,000 district must still fund adequately

16 Parent Involvement and Private Schools Private school (cont’d): –Conferences –Parent training –Reasonable access to Title IA teachers –Provision of district reports on student progress

17 Funding Private School Parent Involvement How is parent involvement for parents of eligible private school students funded? From the districts reservation –Calculate equitable services Divide number of all Title IA low income students in district (including private school students) into district reservation for parental involvement = per child amt.

18 Title IA Coordinator’s Responsibilities What is the Coordinator’s role? Inform district and school administrators of Title IA requirements Collect evidence of compliance including –Copy of district policy –Parent notifications –Parent/teacher conferences

19 Title IA Coordinators Responsibilities Coordinator continued: –Hold annual parent meeting –Consult with parents to establish TAS criteria –Consult with private schools to ensure opportunity for participation
