2. Lady of Shallot The Lady of Shallot is a poem written by English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson. Like his poem “Sir Lancelot and Queen Guinevere” the poem is set in the time of King Arthur and is based on a medieval myth.

3. Lady of Shallot Summary The poem tells the story of a girl living in a tower of a castle on the fairy-tale island of Shalott. All day long she weaves tapestry pictures-images of the colorful world passing by her window. However, she is not allowed to the outside world only through its reflections in a mirror near her spinning wheel.

4. Continued-Lady of Shallot Summary She is forbidden by some vague curse to look directly out her window. One day the knight, Sir Lancelot of Camelot, rides by and she dares to look out her window at him and downstream to Camelot. Quickly she leaves her tower, she finds an open boat chained to the riverbank, and tries to sail to Camelot. However, the curse claims her, and she soon dies in the drifting boat. Her body is found by the townspeople of Camelot.
