22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it. 25 During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid." Matthew 14 Pray God is present Don’t be afraid

28 "Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water.“ 29 "Come," he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?" 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshipped him, saying, "Truly you are the Son of God." Thank God for his written Word to us Pray God is present Don’t be afraid

Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 1. The disciples are going on ahead in the boat: The disciples are going home at the end of the day and Jesus isn't 'with them', he expects us to get on with life Prayer: Offer your everyday, this time tomorrow, moments to God
7
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 2. The storm builds: Life gets tough and at that moment Jesus isn't in the boat with them Prayer: Life can be tough: Help me Lord, Help__________ Lord (on post-its, children stick to waves).
8
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 3. Jesus appears through the storm: He sees his friends struggling and meets them in their need, the storm doesn't go away but he comes to them. Prayer: Anne in North Africa
9
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 4. They are terrified thinking he might be a ghost: They don't recognise Jesus and they are terrified, Jesus may not come as the 'meek and mild' comforter we often expect Prayer: Halloween this week
10
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 5. Jesus speaks: He will meet us in our need when we cry out, his command is 'don't be afraid'. Why not? Because he is with us Prayer: Don't be afraid (on post-its children stick to waves)
11
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 6. Peter gets out of the boat: The story doesn't end when Jesus appears. Once we are fixed on Jesus we can 'push boundaries' and achieve more than we imagine, but the storm is still scary Prayer: new/scary things: family centre/newly baptised/meal with meaning/thinking about baptism/hospital appointments (those that are able get up and stick post-it to waves)
12
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 7. Peter sees the wind and begins to sink: He takes his eyes off Jesus and struggles but calls to Jesus to save him and Jesus reaches out to do so. Prayer: Turn your eyes upon Jesus (first time someone else, second time ourselves)
13
Turn your eyes upon Jesus Look full in his wonderful face And the things of earth will grow strangely dim In the light of this glory and grace Keep your eyes on Jesus Let nobody else take his place So that hour by hour you will know his power Till at last you have run the great race
14
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 8. Jesus rebukes and saves: When we mess up, there is rebuke from Jesus, but there is also being saved – both/and not either/or. Prayer: Sorry God
15
Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 9. The disciples worship Jesus: The reason recorded is that he is 'truly the son of God' not that he has stopped them from being swept away in the storm, the great things Jesus does are there to point us to who he is, not ends in themselves.

King of kings, majesty God of heaven living in me. Gentle Saviour, closest Friend Strong Deliverer, Beginning and End All within me falls at Your throne. Your majesty, I can but bow; I lay my all before You now. In royal robes I don't deserve I live to serve Your majesty. Earth and heaven worship You Love eternal, faithful and true Who bought the nations, ransomed souls Brought this sinner near to Your throne All within me cries out in praise

Ten things to think and pray about as the children make “noise” 10. When they have crossed over many come to meet Jesus and be healed: Having had this amazing experience the work of others coming and finding goes on.
