A digital story is a story that is told through digital means, such as the computer. It uses a program, such as Microsoft PowerPoint, to engage viewers with elements such as animation and sound.

Through the use of Microsoft PowerPoint, you will use the following elements to create your own digital story: - Original Pictures/Clip Art - Animations - Sound - Narration

This is an example of a 1 st grade student’s digital story. Pay close attention to the original artwork, clip art, animation, sounds, and narration.

Each week we will focus on a different component of your digital story. Every Monday, I will complete a demonstration lesson that will teach you how to integrate each component into your digital story. Then, Tuesday through Friday will be your chance to work on the component for the week.

Week 1: Write Story and Create Illustrations Week 2: Background, Font, Clip Art, Photos Week 3: Animations and Sound Week 4-5: Narration and Transitions Week 6: Peer Editing/Revision

This week you will write your story and create original artwork. Let’s get started!

You do not need to follow a planning page when writing your story. However, please keep the following in mind: - use transition words - include sizzling vocabulary, strong verbs, onomatopoeias, etc. - have a clear beginning, middle, end.

At the end of your story there will be a page dedicated to you! On this page you will describe yourself to the readers. Some things you should include are: -basic information (name, age, grade) -hobbies -goals

Your digital story will include original artwork created by you! You can be as creative as you want. Some examples of ways to create original artwork include: - drawing - sculpting (clay, Play-Doh, Legos) - painting
