UNIT 7: WEATHER AIMEE SIMON, BEN NOAH, AMARA THOMAS, CAITLYN CHAPMAN

WEATHER. Weather: Causative factors for weathers the state of the atmosphere at any given time. The elements of weather include the properties of the atmosphere that are measured regularly and used to express the nature of weather.

UNIT 7: OVERALL WWK In this Unit, you will know: How wind, heat, air Pressure, and moisture cause weather. The effect the hydrosphere has on the atmosphere and the different things that it causes. The sun’s role in driving weather processes such as wind and fronts.

SECTION 1: CAUSATIVE FACTORS OF WEATHER. WWK: How wind, heat, air Pressure, and moisture cause weather.

SECTION 1. Wind directions pull temperatures to different regions. Wind also prevents surface temperatures from rising. EX: When wind travels from the east, snow fall decreases. The earth absorbs heat from the sun effecting the atmosphere. Wind & Heat

SECTION 1. Precipitation and moisture occur when temperatures are cooler, while hot dry air produces little. Denser air, varying suspended liquid and solid particles of gas, creates a higher air pressure. Varying air pressures cause wind. Moisture & Air Pressure

SECTION 1. What is one of the four main components that cause weather? KickStarter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtgFHHhm1xU

SECTION 2: THE EFFECTS OF HYDROSPHERE ON ATMOSPHERE WWK: The effect the hydrosphere has on the atmosphere and the different things that it causes.

SECTION 2. The hydrosphere makes up all of the water on Earth, frozen, liquid or vapor. Evaporation causes liquid water to change into water vapor which forms clouds in the atmosphere Orographic uplift is caused by land forcing the air up. The Hydrosphere

SECTION 2 Atmospheric Changes The water vapor from condensation can cause many different forms of weather. Depending on the amount of vapor in the air. The Cumulonimbus Cloud is also known as a thunderstorm cloud. The condensation (the change from vapor to liquid) of the vast amounts of water causes large amounts of heat and energy, which can create lightning, hail, or many other types of storms.

SECTION 2 Cumulonimbus Cloud

SECTION 2 How to tell what the weather is going to do There are many types of instruments that help detect what is going on in the atmosphere. The Hydrometer helps to determine the water-vapor content that is in the air.

SECTION 2 KickStarter What is the change of liquid water into water vapor?

SECTION 3: SUN’S ROLE IN DRIVING WEATHER WWK:The sun’s role in driving weather processes such as wind and fronts.

SECTION 3 THE SUN’S ROLE Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a particular place for a short period of time. Weather processes such as wind, clouds, fronts and participation are the result of the suns uneven heating on the earth.

SECTION 3 Wind & Fronts The sun’s uneven heating creates masses of cool and warm air, which moves from place to place through out the earths surface, creating winds. When these cold and hot air masses meet, fronts are created. A front is the boundary between two adjoining air masses having contrasting characteristics.

SECTION 3 KickStarter What is weather? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nske3RsyHE

SECTION 4: HUMAN’S ROLE IN EFFECTING CLIMATE WWK: How Human Activities Affect the Changes in Earths Climate

SECTION 4 The Activities Humans may not realize it,but everything we do affects the weather and changes the climate. One of the many causes of the climate change is that we burn stuff! We burn coal, oil and natural gasses in factories that damage the earths atmosphere and causes the climate/ weather to change. Everything we do affects the weather and changes the climate. One of the many causes of the climate change is that we burn stuff! We burn coal, oil and natural gasses in factories that damage the earths atmosphere and causes the climate/ weather to change.

SECTION 4: GREEN HOUSE GASSES Another thing that is affecting our weather is Greenhouse Gasses. Greenhouse Gasses are any of the gases whose absorption of solar radiation is responsible for the greenhouse effect, including carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, and the fluorocarbons.

SECTION 4:NOW WHAT DO THEY DO??? These gasses cause the Greenhouse Effect- warming that results when the atmosphere traps heat radiating from Earth toward space. Some gasses in the atmosphere hold warm gasses in place, but the earth is already super hot so it forces the earth to change its climate. Scientists call that Forced Climate.
