France Former settlers- Gauls, Romans, Franks, and Vikings Most speak French and are Roman Catholic France and U.S. have always been allies until the spread of Americanism has caused recent problems Paris is the capital and primate city (11 million) Primate city- dominates country in population and economy

Economy Have the most productive workers Shortest work week Longest vacations French products: perfume, jewelry, glassware, and furniture Tourism- French Alps and French Riviera Farming- 2 nd to U.S. for farm exports( wheat, sugar beets, olives, grapes, and dairy)
