2 Final MAMA Meeting –Tunis 7 Th -9 Th March 2005 APAT – Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services APAT participation in the project Member of the Project Team WP 0 (MAMA_CO) Organizing visits of scientists/technicians in Italian centres/institutions (logistic and preparation) WP 3 (MAMA_CAP/build) Access and main end-user to net-MedGOOS and node for end-users in WWW WP 5 (MAMA_NET) Links to EEA and production of awareness material WP 7 (MAMA_AWARE) Responsible for the second MAMA plenary meeting (13 th month) Survey and testing on CEROSPIG software WP 8 (MAMA_DISS&PROD)

3 Final MAMA Meeting –Tunis 7 Th -9 Th March 2005 APAT – Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services Role of APAT in MAMA APAT acts as the National Focal Point and National Reference Center of the European Environment Agency (EEA) in Italy, providing yearly data of the national monitoring programmes for coastal waters to EEA APAT is representing Italy in the working process of the implementation of the new European Water Directive (Directive 60/EC/2000) END-USER EU policy Contribution to the implementation and evolution of EU policies

5 Final MAMA Meeting –Tunis 7 Th -9 Th March 2005 APAT – Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services How MAMA has benefited APAT and Italy At National level  Integrated view of institutional coastal monitoring: data, methods, stations, personnel training, needs for legislation requirements, gaps…..  Effective collaboration with national research Institutions  Extend contacts with research Institutions and others working on coastal environment

6 Final MAMA Meeting –Tunis 7 Th -9 Th March 2005 APAT – Agency for Environmental Protection and Technical Services How MAMA has benefited APAT and Italy At Mediterranean level:  Extend knowledge and contacts to research and monitoring on the “marine” (not just coastal) side of the Mediterranean  Network base for future work At European level:  Constant update of the new legislations requirements, comparison with the national and Mediterranean situation to identify problems and needs  Collaboration with European institutions for information and data exchange
