3. The ETN Standard Format The Standard Format is a template whose fields consist of attributes, variables or characteristics that describe a class within an ecosystem classification. It should be filled out for every class in each national classification and for the Reference Classification. It contains information on species and protected areas, which could provide a link to other Thematic Networks. It is the basic unit in a relational database. It has a hierarchichal structure similar to GEOSS
