Expert witness – has insider knowledge of the case Bail ‘em out – waits until class gets stuck and comes to its aid Assume a personality – assumes role of person within the organization being discussed Get the facts – throws out facts in a quick and unimportant manner

Industry expert – authority on the industry in question; can offer trends and clarification on case I’ve got experience – person who has work experience in business and type of situation under discussion Questioner – directs crucial questions toward participants Wrap-it-up – leaves participants with a clearer understanding of the entire case and discussion

Observe which classmates talk the most; determine if their comments are accurate What is the instructor’s style? The cross-examiner – thoroughly questions each statement Devil’s advocate – questions students on position taken The hypothetical position – uncovers strength of a discussion’s logic Role playing – students assume various personalities within the case The silent style – allows class to lead discussion

Lead-off question is most important Stimulates further discussion Answers reflect who is prepared to discuss the case Instructor realizes each class member has a different opinion How will you ask questions? Minimize direct questions that do not relate specifically to the case discussion Ask questions that are logical and self-explanatory

Analyze case – use six-step analysis process Rescript your notes – revise to better serve you during the discussion Refer to analytical tools – refer to tools that provide the most information Make keyword notes – for quick reference Use instructor’s note pattern – can more easily follow class discussion and contribute your ideas

Improves case learning by requiring you to practice the development and support of logical positions Should be acquainted with other members of group Combine different types of participant knowledge Employ creative brainstorming Easier to talk in small groups

Talk first Can make yourself vulnerable You set the pace for the remaining class discussion Talk later Can determine the direction of the discussion and contribute to the direction and flow of the process You run the risk of eventually not talking at all It is important that you talk, whether now or later!
