2 Our Use 0f Forest Traditional… forest used to build homes, stages, flakes, firewood, and other personal use. Last 100 years… personal use and commercial use such as logging and pulp and paper. Since 1990’s… management as an ecosystem.

3 Forestry Practices Clear-cutting… all trees in a large area are removed for pulp and paper. Selective-cutting… only certain trees from an area are harvested.

4 Clear-cutting... Advantages Safer for workers Less expensive Company can choose type of trees for replanting Some wildlife benefit from berries on shrubs and low–lying vegetation

5 Clear-cutting… Disadvantages Temperature Increases During the summer, the ground will warm up quicker. During the winter, the soil will cool down quicker.
