The Fourth Wave: The Global Communications Age www.http:the widdershins.wordpress.com www.http:the widdershins.wordpress.com The Fourth Wave: The Global Communication Age 2000 The Fourth Wave (Telecommunity) This wave is very controversial and present among great debates. Telecommunities are omnipresent around the world. Evidence of telecommunities exits in our world vicariously via telephones, computers, the internet, social media networks, nano technology and virtual worlds. The internet has viciously inundated our society to the point where people have been robbed of face to face communications and physical interactions. Access to the internet has changed the way people interact, eat, learn, relax, work and communicate. Our society has become so intrigued with technology and the ability to communicate globally that preference to telecommunications are preferred. The social media sites such as Facebook, YouTube and twitter have become a prioritize way to socialize.

Strand 2: Technology Technology has rapidly emerged into our society. In the United States technology become a way of life. In the past it was considered rude to answer a cellular telephone if you were engaged in conversation with someone or eating dinner. Now we are living in the technological way of life so people are using cellular telephones, I-pods, Mp3 players and plethora of other types of technology to talk, send email, take pictures and network for business and social networking. Children that are at the age of three and four know how to operate computers better than they can speak. Classrooms are using Active and Smart boards to use virtual manipulatives and work out math problems. In today’s society students no longer desire to learn how to spell words because they have access to spell check, theasaurus and dictionaries online. Technology is here to stay and it is everywhere. People are making less time to enjoy face to face interactions in order to chat, date, conversate and blog online. The World Wide Web is consuming the interest of the young and the old. If we are not careful technology will be the reason for friendships and relationship as well as jobs. In order for technology to remain a positive part of our life we must not abuse it when we use it. Technology runs the world!

Key Technological advances from the 1900’s to 2010 1950’s Computers emerged into our society. 1965 The mini-computer invented. The PDP-8 emerged as the 1 st computer to use integrated circuit technology. The retail value was $18,000. Over 5000 units were sold (Designed by Digital Equipment). http://www.sciencemuseum.org. 13 Strand 4: Educational Theories of Learning Instruction  Operant Conditioning Learning Theory by B.F. Skinner  Operant conditioning has been used mostly clinical settings. The Operant Learning theory focused on behavior modification strategies as well as teaching classroom management. The Operant Learning was also very effective in identifying and observing Programmed Instruction.  http://tip.psychology.org/skinner.htmlhttp://tip.psyc hology.org/skinner.htmlhttp://tip.psyc hology.org/skinner.html

Theories of Learning Instruction  Constructivism Constructivism is the way that learners construct knowledge for themselves to understand. Every learner as an individual and socially constructs meaning while they learn things. If a person can construct meaning, a person can think individually and the way each person evaluates a situation in order to learn and people learn by experience..http://www.exploratorium.edu/IFI/r esources/constructivismlearning.htmlhttp://www.exploratorium.edu/IFI/r esources/constructivismlearning.html

Strand 5: Nature of Society and Culture  Event 1: The election of Barack Obama as the first African American President. He was elected the 44th President of the United States on November 4, 2008, and sworn in on January 20, 2009. This event totally helped determine the thinking of this decade in terms of nature, society and culture. I never thought that it would be possible for an African America to be elected as President of the United States of America://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/presi dent-Obama://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/presi dent-Obama

Strand 5: Nature of Society and Culture  The terrorist attack on September 11,2001 is another event that helped determine the thinking of the 11 decades. I have always thought that we were safe in the United States and there could not be a way for any terrorist to attack us. However, the tragic events on September 11,2001 proved me and a lot of other Americans wrong http:www.september 11news.com/

Strand 6: African American Inventors and their inventions  There are many African Americans that invented products that we still use today. The first accomplishment that was notable to me is the inventions of Madame C. J. Walker. Madam C.J Walker invented a hair growing solution to promote health hair growth and other products. (1867–1919)http: //teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory/invento rshttp: //teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory/invento rs

African American inventors and their Inventions  Lewis Latimer Lewis Latimer (1848-1928) invented an important part of the light bulb, which is called the carbon filament. Mr. Lewis worked inside the lab of Thomas Edison and Alexander Gram Bell. Without Lewis Latimer Lewis, we may not be ale to see in the darkly lit areas.http: teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory/inventors/ latimer.htmhttp: teacher.scholastic.com/activities/bhistory/inventors/ latimer.htm
