Challenges 34.5% of Baystate Health’s IT workforce is over the age of 55. 8.4% of the BH IT Workforce is over the age of 63. Long recruitment cycles High cost of vacancy & cost per hire It cost as much a $1,000 per day for each day an IT position is vacant (Lean Human Capital) Not enough resources to get it all done!

Short-Term Actions We must do a better job branding and promoting the Pioneer Valley as regional center of excellence for technology professionals. We need to infuse our technical workforce with leadership skills so that those that are here are incented to stay here. We should look for “micro” workforce develop opportunities to link students and O.J.T.

Long-Term Actions Clearly developed pathways from secondary school through to college and/or internship programs Developed capacity of the employers to provide “on the job” training Retain top entry level talent being educated in the Valley Increase first class Information & Technology opportunities here.
