4 CARDINAL NUMBERS - SPELLING  40 is spelled forty, NO ‘U’  Numbers from 21 to 99 that don’t end with 0 are written in two words - separated by a hyphen. Examples34 thirty – four 46 forty – six 78 seventy – eight 92 ninety – two 362 three hundred sixty – two  Large numbers are never plural after a numeral. Examples 300 three hundred 60,000 sixty thousand 13,000,000thirteen million

6 ORDINAL NUMBERS - SPELLING  Just add th to the cardinal number. Examples 31st : thirty-first 22,547th : twenty-two thousand, five hundred forty-seventh  Numbers ending in –y, change y for ie and add th. Examples20 twenty : twentieth 80 eighty : eightieth

8 WORDS  # that can be written in two words Example My grand-mother just turned eighty - two years old.  Some textbooks suggest that # up to nine should be written out in words. ExampleI live 10 km away from school.  Always put a hyphen after a numeral when it modifies a noun. ExampleMy 8-year-old sister is a brat. (Note: no « s » on « year »)  For decimals and fractions ExampleAdd 1/8 teaspoon baking powder.  To clear up possible confusion. Use numerals for larger #. ExampleI need five 20-dollar bills.
