4. Dissociative Elements of Test Taking Test create data –Good tests make a range of data –Knowledge must remain the same The CAHSEE is primarily based on 8 th grade Standards –Increase difficulty by the structure of the question and answer choices

5. Dissociative Elements of Test Taking Difficulty of questions: 1/3 easy questions, 1/3 medium, & 1/3 hard But not in this order  test makers know students work in a linear progression

6. What’s the Purpose of the CAHSEE? to improve student achievement in high school to help ensure that students who graduate from high school can demonstrate grade- level competency in reading, writing, and mathematics.

7. Important Dates Tuesday, March 16, 2010 –English Language Arts Test (8am-12pm but untimed) Wednesday, March 17, 2010 –Math Test (8am-12pm but untimed)

8. English Language Arts Section Reading Section –Vocabulary –50% literary texts –50% informational texts Writing Section –Writing strategies –Applications (essay) –Conventions

9. Math Section Content Standards up to Algebra –Statistics –Data analysis & probability –Number sense –Measurement & geometry –Algebra and functions –Mathematical reasoning NO Calculators

10. Results Results are returned about 8 weeks after the test. Opportunities –Every 10 th grader must take the CAHSEE –2 more opportunities Junior Year –3 more opportunities Senior Year If you do not pass one section, you must take just that one section again. AVID has had a 100% passing rate for the past 2 years.
