INTRODUCTION The fingerprint-based staff attendance system is the system which is aimed at automating the process of attendance taking and tracking in organization. The proposed system make use of fingerprint type of biometric authentication to eradicate the irregularities brought by the traditional methods of attendance taking.
5
PROJECT OBJECTIVES Main Objective To develop a system that will help in automatic taking and tracking of staff attendance by using fingerprint. Specific Objectives To collect and analyze the requirements of the proposed system.
6
PROJECT OBJECTIVES Specific Objectives …… To design and implement circuit that will perform attendance taking process. To design and implement supporting software module that will facilitate attendance tracking. Compare new system against the traditional system.
7
BACKGROUND RESEARCH Biometrics Jiexun, Wang and Chen (2011); The origin of biometrics has been in the public sector; however biometrics is used for identification and verification of criminals. Biometric technology can also be applied in solving the problem of staff attendance as Oloyede et. al. (2013) found in their extensive research.
8
BACKGROUND RESEARCH Related Works Adewole et. al. (2014) proposed to build a system that use fingerprint based technology in attendance management which provides easy way of access staff information and easy monitoring of attendance summary. The system ensures security to staffs records, eradicate fake attendance records and saves time.
9
PROJECT METHODOLOGY Requirements Collection and Analysis The project will begin with the requirements collection which will be collected via observation and literature review. Analysis will be done thereafter. Design The conceptual design is shown in the following slide.
10
PROJECT METHODOLOGY
11
Implementation In hardware module, the circuit will consist of fingerprint sensor, LCD display and programmed Atmega microcontroller. In software module, the database will be developed using MySQL DB while Java language will be used to design system interfaces and implement intended system’s functionalities.
12
PROJECT METHODOLOGY Testing Hardware and Software testing. Include individual components testing, modular testing and overall system testing. Evaluation Compare traditional way with the automated system. Benchmarks: Time taken to record staff attendance, efficiency in report generation and security.
