17 Begin creating your Activities Résumé Organize all of your extracurricular activities since 9 th grade. Include all activities in both school and community. Be sure to update each year! Make sure you continue to stay active in a variety of activities throughout high school. This is VERY important in college admissions as it can distinguish you from other applicants. Get started now if you haven’t already, because junior English teachers will assign the activity résumé in the spring! Quality is so much more important than quantity! Leadership, community service, and being well-rounded are very important to colleges and scholarship committees! Planning for College

19 Coming in March 2016: Your first chance to take the new SAT is March 5. The SAT is changing in some ways, but these things are staying the same: It’s accepted by almost all U.S. colleges It’s typically taken by juniors in the spring and seniors in the fall Used together, nothing predicts potential college success better than the combination of SAT scores and high school GPA. What’s changed? * All-new optional essay * No penalty for guessing * No vocab you’ll never use again Facts about the New SAT: 4 parts: Reading, Writing and Language, Math, and the optional SAT Essay 400–1600 score scale* 4 answer choices 3 hours and 50 minutes with the SAT Essay — or 3 hours without it (retrieved from https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat)

20 SAT-I is the SAT. Plan to take it in the spring of your junior year! http://sat.collegeboard.org SAT-II is a shorter test for particular subject areas; some colleges may require these. Check your possible future college choices and plan to take them at or near the end of your junior year if at all possible. http://sat.collegeboard.org/about-tests/sat-subject-tests ACT is a standardized reasoning test that evaluates students in English, math, science & social studies. For some students, it is a good alternative to the SAT. And ACT scores will convert to SAT scores! www.act.orgwww.act.org Most colleges take highest math, reading, and writing scores. 29 The junior year is admittedly the toughest year of a high school student’s life, but in every part of life there is a need for balance. 1.Simplify and do less – allow yourself down time to relax and recharge. 2.Get enough sleep – don’t deprive your brain of its full functioning power! 3.Get organized – keep a calendar and map out those long term assignments. 4.Have fun – because you’ve earned it!

30 And remember, if the going ever gets rough, We are here for you!!
