Katie, a little girl has an elder sister, Lynn, and a younger brother, Sammy. Their parents awned an Asian foods grocery in Iowa. They closed it because it went out of business. Katie has an uncle who is always boisterous worked in a poultry hatchery in Georgia. He helped Katie ’ s father get a work in the hatchery and helped them move into a small apartment where other Japanese families live. Then they began a long struggle toward saving money to buy a house of their own. However, the working situation at the hatchery were almost intolerable, even their children was prejudiced at school, but the small community of Japanese families helped each in their daily lives. Katie ’ s parents worked double shifts, so Lynn had to take care of her younger sister and brother. Katie was really liked and adored her sister. Then they began a long struggle toward saving money to buy a house of their own. Her sister always encouraged her and tell her to have a optimistic though. Unfortunately, when she is fourteen and Katie is ten, Lynn became ill with lymphoma and died finally. It is true that everyone will die one day. However, we seldom care about the people who are around us and treasure them. When our friends or parents leave, we just start to regret why didn ’ t I treat him/her well at that time?
