SITUATION: The F/V EYAK grounded and sank near Calligan Is., 15 miles SSW from Sitka. The vessel had 700 gallons of diesel, gasoline and unknown amount of hydraulic oil. The vessel was refloated and no product was spilled, the tanks remained in tact. RESPONSE: Sector Juneau, ADEC, SEAPRO and Southeast Alaska Lighterage, FV EYAK (John Castle) LESSONS LEARNED: Train locals on HAZWOPER to reduce/eliminate response time.

SITUATION: CG received a report of a significant sheen in Statter Harbor at 1930, on Feb. 22, 2015. The OSLTF was opened to mitigate the threat and start recovery. The RP was later identified when the CG’s Marine Safety Lab confirmed that samples taken from a vessel o/s were conclusive with samples taken from the water. The RP received a Civil Penalty and the NPFC will collect approximately $50K to recoup the cost of the clean up. RESPONSE: Sector Juneau, ADEC, and Southeast Alaska Lighterage. LESSONS LEARNED: Remind public to contact NRC, CG were notified of the spill when a fisherman posted a FB post with his hand immersed in oil.
