GBOD Certified Lay Minister Reasons for CLMs 1.The Connection  District Superintendents may assign laypersons to pastor small churches that need to be supplied as part of a ministry team or to expand team ministry in any sized church.  CLM is a viable option biblically, theologically, traditionally and organizationally.  Several Conferences already have lay pastoral training (but not adequate support, supervision, and accountability processes). A General Church standard was needed.

45. GBOD Certified Lay Minister A Certified Lay Minister (CLM) is not ordained or licensed clergy under appointment of the Bishop. A CLM is a lay person certified for intentional leadership and assigned by the Bishop or District Superintendent to a congregation. They do not replace clergy — but rather work with them so that all congregations have the pastoral leadership necessary for vital mission and ministry. They are partners in ministry.

GBOD Certified Lay Minister The Mutual Ministry team will accompany the CLM on this journey by reviewing their learning either by module review or reviewing course descriptions and goals from other venues. They will provide input to the CLM Mentor and the CLM on the progress they see and provide feedback on areas that may need further development. This team is able to provide real time feedback and input on effectiveness since they are a part of the congregation (other DS and possibly mentor) CLM-Mutual Ministry Team
