2 Brief Project Overview  Track distance run via GPS.  Relay real time statistics to user via LCD.  Battery powered.  Arm-mounted portable device

3 Ethical Issues Product Reliability and Safety  Must be durable enough to work while being jostled.  Must test our product thoroughly to know what levels of impact it can sustain—What if the runner trips?  Must ensure there are no loose pieces on the inside.  Must ensure battery will never short because this could cause personal injury.  Must be able to work when slightly moist.  Runner will likely be sweating when wearing device

4 How will we address these issues?  Test thoroughly to ensure it will always work under normal operating conditions.  Place warnings in user’s manual for things such as:  Do not store near fire.  Do not wear in heavy rain  Place a warning label on back of device to remind user not to store near fire due to possibility of battery explosion.

5 Environmental Issues & Solutions  LCD manufacturing  Produces Nitrogen Trifluoride, a gas that contributes to the greenhouse effect.  SOLUTION: Could look into using “green LCDs”  Recycling our product  Do not want product’s pieces to end up in a landfill.  SOLUTION: Could offer a monetary reward to user’s who return their product to us after it’s life cycle is complete. We could then recycle the parts as necessary.
