What we did in class today: Monday October 8, 2012 Reviewed how to write a Science PACE 8 problem. Problem is due Wed 10/10/12 Reviewed Energy Conversion Lab Stations.

PACE You’ll create a testable problem or question about a scientific problem that interests you. You’ll research the topic, create a hypothesis and design an experiment to test that problem. You’ll perform the experiment, running multiple trials and collect data. You’ll graph your data and write a final lab report.

Safe and Doable Experiments Parent permission Teacher approval of experimental procedure No changes made to experiment without teacher and parent permission Time limits kept in mind

Problem/Question Can be worked on at home Clearly stated Testable Only 1 variable is tested Addresses approved topic

Rubric Components Possible Points Points Earned Problem:  Independent variable written first.  Dependent variable written second.  Problem is clear and concise and written in the form of a question. o What is the relationship between _____ and ____? o How does _______ affect _________?  It begins with a capital letter and ends with a question mark. 15 Independent Variable The variable being tested/changed in the experiment. Dependent Variable The variable being measured in the experiment. Problem/Question? mass size velocity (m/s) time to fall (s) How does mass affect velocity(m/s)? What is the relationship between the size of an object and the time to fall(s)? Sample Problems/Questions: Science PACE 8 Problem/Question
