OSHA operates under the general working standards and explains that: “ All employer shall furnish to each of his or her employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his or her employees”.

Management commitment with a safety policy and publicize it. This should emphasize that the firm will do anything practical to eliminate or reduce accidents and injuries. Analyze the number of accidents and safety incidents and then set specific achievable safety goals.

Unsafe conditions are one main cause of accidents. They include such things as: Improperly guarded equipment Defective equipment Hazardous procedures, in or around machine or equipment Unsafe storage – congestions, overloading Improper illuminations – glare, insufficient light Improper ventilation – insufficient air change, impure air sources.

Work place violence Internet / intranet security Employee selection and screening Fraud and white collar crime Business interruption and disaster recovery General employment theft Hardware and software theft Workplace drug and alcohol use Unethical business conduct Property crime, such as external theft and vandalism
