2. Theme Statements (BOOM) Underestimating someone because of their colour is irrelevant when you lack the knowledge of their true power. People can be blinded by hope, but eventually time will make them realize their naivety

3. Thesis Statements Through the events that happen in the paint factory, Liberty Paints, Invisible Man realizes that people may hold more power than they appear. After discovering that Bledsoe never wanted to help IM, he realizes that Hope should be applied only when there's a logical reason for it to be.

4. Example #1 IM gets accused of being a traitor or a "Fink" within the company, according to the workers' union, because of the supervisor he's under - Brockway.

5. Explanation The members of the union assumed that Brockway didn't know what he was doing simply because he was a man of color, and that anyone working under him would hurt the company. When in reality, Brockway had more power and understanding of the company than any other man at the plant. So the judgments of the workers are based only upon the "color of his skin and not the content of his character". Thus making I.M. uncomfortable and taking him out of his comfort zone because of a circumstance

6. Example #2 When I.M. went to the deli, the waiter asked him if he would like the pork chops & waffles. Taking it racistly, he denies. Instead, he orders toast, orange juice & coffee.

7. Explanation although IM actually wants to have the food that the waiter offered him, he feels he is being racist so he denies it. instead he orders food that he feels an "intelligent" person would order so that the waiter can see who he truly is. an educated man and not a "southern bumpkin"

8. Example I.M. goes to give his final letter to the last recipient and finds out from the son that all of the letters he has received from Bledsoe have been hurting his cause instead of helping him.

9. Explanation I.M. knows that Bledsoe dislikes him, and has no real logical reason to trust him. however IM is blinded by the hope of possibly getting back into the college. As time goes on though his hope begins to dwindle, because none of the investors are getting back to him. Then he finds out that the entire time, Bledsoe was working against him. This realization crushes his original hopes/desires, and makes him realize that he can't trust people as easily as before.

10. Conclusion Invisible Man, in a whole, teaches about home in a sense of being in a comfortable state of mind within yourself by knowing who you are and what you stand for. it shows through IMs decisions and failures at an attempt to be a better person, that the truest home lies within yourself; home can never be what other people want it to be for you, only what you want it to be for yourself.
