Heraldry Heraldry is the act of emblazoning (decorating) or assigning a coat of arms A coat of arms is a design placed on tunics, armor, flags, etc. Used to identify a family, army, social group when no one could read

First used in the Middle Ages to identify enemies on the battlefield Later developed into images on shields, color of mane in helmets, horse decoration, etc.
