3. Who were The Dennys? The Denny party weren’t just people who stopped at all the Denny’s restaurants. They founded Seattle! The Denny Party members weren’t very old, the oldest members were 30! The Terrys were from New York while the Borens,Lees and Dennys were from Illinois.

4. Before the Dennys The first American pioneers to settle in King County wasn’t the party. Joseph Maple and his son Samuel had traveled from Iowa to Oregon the down to ”the golden state” California, they were unlucky and didn’t mine any gold so they traveled up to Seattle where they settled in Maple Valley. On the summer of 1850 a young Iowan man named John Holgate found that the mouth of the Duwamish river was great farmland when canoeing down the Duwamish with native guides these settlers were here when the dennys arrived.

5. How did they do stuff? Founding Seattle wasn’t easy, the settlers would have to use their (sometimes) most precious things. The Boren and Bells didn’t just want to farm, they wanted to build a city. They came by covered wagon to Portland, But find it to crowded. On September 25 1851 David Denny,John Low and Lee Terry land on Alki beach David claims it and urges Arthur to come and he does). Now the whole Denny party is in Seattle. (at that time it was called the ”Duwamps”). Doc Maynard thought that sounded a bit weird so he changed its name to “Seattle” Some times the natives would give gifts, mostly berries and useful information on gathering. Pretty soon the settlers realized they needed a port. So they measured Elliot bay with a clothesline weighted down with horseshoes. Eventually a harbor was built. On 12/19/1852 the Dennys put logs on the Leanosa at Seattle’s first export Soon a man named Henry Yesler asked to build a sawmill and on 10/30/1852 a sawmill was built. The sawmill helped saw wood more easily so the Dennys could ship it to san Frisco
