Self disclose the right information and you’ll gain their interest. Self-disclose the wrong information and you don’t stand a chance. Self disclosure is not just what you say but HOW YOU SAY IT.

Disclosing that you have a college degree and then having spelling and grammatical errors. Disclosing that you are organized, but your resume has no logical flow. Not disclosing a specific resume objective that relates to the organization. Not using appropriate words or phrases that are associated with the position. Not using an professional email address.

Your educational record is most important for your first position. Reverse chronological order Begin with your college degree, not high school Only include GPA if it is impressive If you are short on work experience, include titles of courses that relate to the position.

The Cover Letter Design and target letters to specific positions and organizations To a specific person Brief (Letter will become talking points for the interview.) Explain WHY you are interested. Avoid beginning the first paragraph with “I” Do not repeat your resume. Communicate enthusiasm NO ERRORS!!!

Revise your resume for every job you apply for. Collect insider information if possible. Always follow up with a thank you note that is hand written.
