T HE F IRST C OMPUTERS..... Some say the first computers were actually people. People were called computers because they performed jobs that were assigned to them. “Computers” originated from a job title. This job was occupied by majority Caucasian women who were assigned to compute/ or calculate answers. But with less and less accuracy, inventors needed to create a new invention for this job.

T HE CALCULATOR PERIOD One of many computers are calculators, the first calculator was called an abacus. The abacus was mostly used for addition and subtraction. It was used less for multiplication and division because it took so much time. When people here the word abacus, they mostly think of how the Chinese government still uses this product. Now the abacus above is a older abacus, and the one below are more modern.

L OGARITHMS After “the calculator period” there were logarithms, now logarithms are ivory sticks with numbers and values on them. They were made for multiplication problems via addition. On the ivory stick there are numbers carved on it. Before and After After the logarithms there were many inventions to try to do the job of a modern day computer, but none of those inventions work quite like ancient type-writer

T HE T YPE - WRITER PERIOD ! In 1965, there was a specific type of type- writer called the ASR 33 Teletype. The way that this teletype worked was it used rolls of paper and typed 10 letters a inch on the sheets of paper
