Crank Laptops One thing that would be useful for the students in Tanzania, are crank laptops. Crank Laptops are laptops that get their power from a crank that you turn located on the side of the laptop.

Background of Crank Laptops Nicholas Negroponte came up with the concept of “One laptop per child.” This is trying to make sure that every child basically has access to the internet, and computers. The one laptop per child group is so far discussing this idea with five countries. Brazil, China, Thailand, Egypt and South America. They are hoping to distribute 15 million of these laptop test systems to children. Hopefully, what will happen is the government will buy each laptop for 100 US dollars, and then distribute them for free.

"Laptops are both a window and a tool: a window into the world and a tool with which to think. They are a wonderful way for all children to 'learn learning' through independent interaction and exploration." Negroponte wrote on his web site.
