ARIES The ARIES decision support system provides 12 different modules which all can assist in the identification of ingredients of animal feeds, dedicated to the detection of contamination with animal meal. This Beta version of ARIES is for illustrative and research purposes only within the scope of the EU project STRATFEED. Some modules will be shown on the next page. press enter

5. The first step is the collection of data from a slide which is prepared from a sample suspected to contain a contamination with animal protein. ARIES can guide you through the process by showing a protocol and chemical handling. One way of entering data in the system is using the TextKey and pressing the subsequent buttons with text according to the collected information. The use of the TextKey is illustrated on the next page. The buttons to be pressed will be indicated by a red frame. press enter

7. Another possibility is a graphical comparison of the views under your microscope with images from ARIES. In the PictureKey images are buttons that can be pressed for making choices. Additional possibilities are indicated by text. The next page shows an animation of using the PictureKey. The use of the classification of ingredient types in the module Categories is also illustrated. press enter

9. A very powerful option is the module IdentifyIt. This module allows the user to enter the collected information in its own preferred order. The module calculates a match percentage between the user’s information and the description of the several types of ingredients. In the following animation at first a data file is selected and subsequently the specified states for two characters are entered. The module allows to go to the connected page in the Sample Types module. press enter

11. ARIES also contains some information on Near Infra-red microscopy. The TextKey includes information on NIRM discriminating equations. Pressing the buttons that fit with your data will finally guide you to the most appropriate choice. press enter

13. Besides microscopical data and images ARIES also contains additional information, such as results for NIRM and PCR for a range of samples from practice. As can be seen on the next page, this information is contained on a special tab named description in the Gallery. press enter
