1 STATUS & STRATEGY OF PULSES CULTIVATION IN TRIPURA
25-Apr-17

2 PULSES PRODUCTION STATUS
Year Area(ha.) Production (MT) Productivity(Kg/ha) (11th FYP) 8582 6005 700 (12th FYP) Target 25000 21000 840

3 Pulses: Demand Projection-Tripura
Year Projected Population based on Annual Growth rate of 1.475% (Lakh) Consumption requirement 40 gram per capita per day) (Thousand tons) Requirement of Seed, feed, 12.5% (Thousand tons) Quantity in 10% (Thousand tons) Total Requirement (Thousand tons) Existing production (Thousand tons) Gap (Thousand tons) 38.36 56.00 7.00 5.60 68.60 6 62.60 38.92 57.00 7.13 5.70 69.83 63.83 39.50 58.00 7.25 5.80 71.05 65.05 40.08 59.00 7.38 5.90 72.28 66.28

4 SWOT ANALYSIS Strength:
Pulses can be grown in almost all types of soils/lands with minimum effort. There is scope for increasing production through aggressive transfer of technology and critical input supply.  Weakness: Cultivation in marginal/ rain fed condition.       Inadequate seed availability        Poor crop management. Inadequate/ non-scientific storage facilities.        Inadequate processing and un-organized marketing 25-Apr-17

5 SWOT ANALYSIS (contd.) Opportunities:
Large chunk of seasonal fallow land can be brought under Pulses (16400 hac.) at the end of 12th Plan. Most suited crop for sustainable agriculture, multiple-cropping and inter-cropping systems. Even with the available existing technology, there is vast scope to increase the production of pulses. 25-Apr-17

6 SWOT ANALYSIS (contd.) Threats:
Highly prone to vagaries of nature such as drought, water logging etc. Highly prone to damage by insect-pest, diseases, nematodes and weeds. Cultivation on marginal lands. With expansion of irrigation in command areas, the areas under pulses get shifted to sub-marginal land. 25-Apr-17

7 PULSES TARGETS Area coverage will be 14,280 hect. from existing level of 8400 hect. Production target is fixed at MT from existing level of 6000 MT. Productivity level will be increased to 775 Kg/hect from the existing level of 706 Kg./ hect. 25-Apr-17

8 STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING PRODUCTION
Area Expansion : Utilization of Seasonal Fallow land: Season Pre- Kharif fallow 960 hac. 4816 HAC. Rabi fallow 2320 hac. 11602 HAC. Total 3280 hac. 16418 hac. 25-Apr-17

9 STRATEGIES FOR INCREASING PRODUCTION (Contd.)
Increase in productivity: Transfer of Technology with improved package & practices. Ensuring availability of good quality HYV certified / improved variety of seeds Life saving irrigation INM, IPM Improved Farm implements Post Harvest Management 25-Apr-17

10 PULSE SEED VILLAGE: 10 Agri. Sub-Divisions have been considered for undertaking Pulse Seed Production Programme Seeds of Arhar, Moong ,Black gram, Lentil and Field Pea will be produced 25-Apr-17

11 PRODUCTION PLAN OF PULSE SEEDS
Pulse Seed Village Programme: Minimum 10 hectares will be covered. To be taken up in selected pulse villages. Multiplication of Seeds in Govt. Farms as well as in the farmers’ field. Seed Certification under technical supervision of State Seed Certification Agency. Storage of seeds in De-humidified go-down 25-Apr-17

12 THANK YOU 25-Apr-17
