3 Family Structure Nuclear Family – Husband, Wife, Kids Extended family – Nuclear Family plus other family members Single parent family – Only one parent raising children Blended family – Remarried families (Step-Parents)

4 Family Responsibilities Parents – Shelter – Food and – Clothing Kids – Following Rules – Contribute to house Communication – Letting family members know what jobs or chores they have, and the rewards

5 Family Pressure Economic – Lack of money makes families have to make choices Disasters – Suffering through natural or manmade disaster, and the results of the disaster Separation/Divorce – Legal document saying the parents are separated, which then adultery is no longer possible – Nevada is a community property state (Assets split 50/50)

6 Family Pressures cont. Domestic Violence – Major pressure put on families. – Leading cause for separation/divorce – Never gets better, only worse Custody – If both parents are fit, judges will try to let parents work out custody – If no, judge will make the decision
