Proposed Priorities - 2004/5 Executive proposes that the Coalition focus on: Membership & Member Communications Government Relations Issues Management Follow-up to the 1 st Forum Planning a 2 nd Forum & Other Events

Membership & Member Communications Membership Expansion & Financial Stability Current Services include: Website Quarterly Conference Calls Regular Newsletters Information Bulletins (as required) Do we expand, maintain or reduce?

Government Relations Current Situation Excellent access to Co-chairs of CFISIG, FPTAFIC, FPTFSPC Limited access to FPT Agriculture Policy ADM’s (route to decision makers) No access to DM’s & Ministers Can we/should we maintain current access, improve access to FPT Agriculture & other Policy ADM’s & establish access to DM’s & Ministers?

Issue Management Federal Government Initiatives Proposed Canada Health Protection Act Regulatory Initiatives (e.g. Irradiation) FPT Initiatives APF - Food Safety & Quality Chapter Activities Participation in sub-committee work (FPTAFIC, CIFSIG, FPTFSPC) New National Food Policy Which should the Coalition focus on? What should the members do?

Follow-up to 1 st Forum (1) High Priorities & Actions Identified by the Executive: Governance & Process of Food Safety Decision-making – Gov’t Lead – Follow through on APF commitments for new mechanisms National Code Development & Amendment – Gov’t Lead – Clarify roles, ownership & amendment processes Government Recognition of Industry-led Food Safety Programs – Gov’t Lead – Establish an FPT subcommittee with industry participation to review & fine tune OFFS process for post-farm programs

Follow-up to 1 st Forum (2) National Food Safety Training – Joint Lead – Complete the retail/food service project Auditing & Certification of Food Safety Programs – Industry Lead – Facilitate discussion of options, linked to recognition Auditor Training & Certification – Industry Lead – Identify lead group, stakeholders & access funding Which are our priorities for 2005?

2 nd Government/Industry Forum On-going Fora - Priority in Coalition’s Initial Objectives Outlook Sessions Specific Issues Code Amendment Work Networking Opportunities Did the 1 st Forum accomplish its objectives? Should there be a 2 nd Forum? If so when? And, what should it focus on?
