George Washington Middle School 51 North Grandview Drive Dubuque, Iowa, 52001 Principal: Mark Burns Home to 640 “Wahawks” Grade 6, 7, 8 –43% Poverty –16% Diversity As of March 30, 2012, 41% of Washington students have participated in LEAP.

Thomas Jefferson Middle School 1105 Althauser Street Dubuque, Iowa 52001 Principal: Philip Kramer Home to 600 “Hillhawks” Grades 6,7,8 –54% Poverty –15.8 % Diversity As of March 30, 2012, 40% of Jefferson students have participated in LEAP.

Innovative and Evolving Student Programs Programs were developed that would assist middle school aged students in fostering engagement in and out of school…programs that would appeal to the wide spectrum of interests and abilities, academic growth and strengths, and social/emotional growth and community belonging.

Goal 1: LEAP opportunities under the grant: Engaging and varied types of safe after-school activities Academic Assistance Service Learning Opportunities To increase the well being of middle school students by focusing on academic achievement.

Goal 2: LEAP opportunities under the grant: Offer programs that integrate social and emotional well being. Offer programs that include physical activities. Enhance the health and social well being of students enrolled in after-school programming.

Goal 3: LEAP opportunities under the grant: All Jefferson and Washington students are recruited for ASP. Quality Staff Professional Development To promote preparation for a productive adulthood by providing high quality and structured activities for ASP middle school students.

Goal 4: LEAP opportunities under the grant: Strengthen family structures Increase parent knowledge of adolescent development Assist parents in helping their children with homework Increase family literacy To promote supportive structures and safe home environments.
