Case 8.1 (1-6) Patient before treatment. The smile was influenced by the cross bite in the right canine region. (7) The analysis of the arches indicated a need for unilateral expansion of the left side in the upper and the lower arch. (8-11) In the upper arch, the expansion was initiated against the occlusion that was reinforced with a bonded occlusal on-lay. The unilateral expansion of the lower arch was done with the third molar in the same side as anchorage. Following treatment, this tooth could be extracted. (12-14) In the upper arch, the expansion force was transferred to the canine that needed to be displaced buccally. (15-19) Posttreatment images. (20,21) Tracing demonstrating the unilateral expansion performed.
