Shabanu

Meaning: a co-worker or fellow member of an organization Example: My mom is talking on the phone to a colleague from her company. When you become an adult you will have colleagues in business.

Meaning: a hug; a gesture of affection Example: When friends meet each other after a long absence, they often share an embrace. A boyfriend or girlfriend might need an embrace to make them feel safe.

Meaning: to give something to someone and receive something in return; trade Example: I would like to exchange my old broken phone for a new one, please. If coach gets angry with a player during the game, he will wait to exchange words with him until after the end of the period.

Meaning: nervous or uneasy about something; jittery Example: I am apprehensive about going to the dentist to get my tooth pulled. If you did not study for your history test, you might be apprehensive about the big test next week.

Meaning: to imagine something; to see something in your mind Example: Can you envision the chaos that will happen when the pizza runs out? Some people envision a future that is very tragic and other people are more hopeful.

Meaning: wide-open Example: There was a gaping hole in the side of the building where the airplane crashed into it. If your little brother loses his four front teeth at the same time, he will have a gaping hole in his smile.

Meaning: to drag or pull something that is heavy Example: It isn’t any fun to haul large suitcases through a crowded airport only to discover that your flight has been cancelled. Little kids are so cute when they try to haul toys that are bigger than they are.

Meaning: to shrivel up and dry out from a lack of water; to wilt Example: The scraggly bean plants are beginning to wither since there has been no rain in several weeks. Those house plants will wither and die if you keep forgetting to water them.
