Cars as status symbols Many couldn’t afford to drive but still owned the car. Highways and roads made it possible for people to drive to find work or adventure

Revolutionary appliances not only were continued to be made, but became more and more popular items to buy when possible. Refrigerator sales continued to climb throughout the Depression. Washing machines and electric irons also were big.

10 million + radio sets were owned by 1929 By 1939… 30 million+. Daytime radio= Soap Operas, panel discussions, and quiz shows. Afternoon= Kids shows, including The Lone Ranger and Superman. Night= News, Comedy shows, and Dramatic Presentations

Literature moved from individual difficulties to mass struggles. Grapes of Wrath (1939) Photographers also made their mark through unfiltered looks at those deeply effected by the Depression.
